There is no one system of classification for any given metal. The AISI-SAE system is used for many steels, but it falls short on coverage of non-ferrous metals. Non-ferrous metals are identified using the Unified Numbering Systems (UNS).
The UNS has a broad range of metals that it classifies, including both ferrous and non-ferrous move metals. It has a number for every AISI grade of steel, which then is typically assigned a letter “G.”
Non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminum are identified like steel. The classification number identifies the content of the metal and the alloying elements.
