Lifting properly is a large part of not getting injured at work. Large machine parts require heavy lifting so don’t strain yourself if the object is too large. Instead, use a hand truck, dolly, or overhead crane. Before using this equipment, though, be sure to train yourself in its proper use.
If you need to lift heavy objects, create a clear pathway to the area where you’ll set it back down. Maintain a solid grip and lift up slowly. Use your arms and legs when lifting – not your back. If you don’t know your shop’s process when moving heavy objects, talk to your supervisor.
