A hole saw, or otherwise known as hole cutter, is a saw blade that has a ring shape used to cut a hole into the workpiece without having to damage the rest of the material. Since they don’t need to cut the rest of the material, they are more desirable to use than other drills because of their efficiency. They are normally used in a drill, usually with a pilot drill bit to keep the bit from travelling.
There are two types of hole saws, adjustable and a circle cutter. An adjustable hole saw has thin, metal saw blade-like strips and a flat round piece with grooves on one side and a shank on the other. When the blades are snapped into the grooves on the disc, then a number of different sizes of holes can be created. A circle cutter normally has 1-3 teeth that may be adjusted on a platform with a pilot bit. When the teeth are adjusted to the proper place then any number of holes may be cut.
