In order to rate the machinability of a product, you have to compare it to another material – a constant. To make this simpler, the industry uses steel grade B-1112 as the material against which shops can compare other products. Since it’s the base material, it’s given a 1.00 rating. Every other material is given a rating that’s higher or lower than this material. Higher than 1.00 means it is easier to machine while lower than 1.00 means the opposite.
