Each tooth on the saw is an essential and individual part of the saw. Each part of the tooth also has a name like any other part of the saw.

The most prominent part of the saw is the tip, which is the part of the saw that makes the actual cut. Then, chips curl around the tooth faces, the sides of the tooth tips. The tooth back is the rear portion of the tooth. Saw blade teeth can be organized straight or angled in various ways to get the desired effect.

The empty area between the teeth is called the gullet. The gullet is the portion of the blade where the chip is created and held until the blade can complete the cut. The distance from tip to tip is called tooth pitch and teeth-per-inch, often abbreviated to TPI, is another acceptable way to measure your blade.
