Bi-metal blades are crafted using two different types of steel. The back is typically a spring steel alloy and the tooth tips are created of high speed steel. Electron beam welding is used to fuse tooth tip and back.
Once the high-speed steel is connected to the back, the teeth are ground down into the blade leaving high-speed steel for its tips. This method of production is more expensive, but helps bi-metal last longer than carbon blades.
