2020 – 03 – Valence Electrons
Most atoms have more than one electron shell. The further you get from the shell that’s closest to the nucleus, the more electrons fit into a layer. Each shell contains as many electrons as possible.
Valence electrons are those electrons on the outer most shell of the atom. When the outer shell of an atom is only partially filled, then those valence electrons can be borrowed or shared during reactions with other atoms. Valence electrons help determine the physical and chemical properties of all materials.
