To protect workers from harm, employers need to evaluate the workplace with a hazard assessment and find out what hazards are in the workplace. When a company does a hazard assessment, a representative or group walks-through and documents worksite conditions.
The team gets separated into two general categories: physical hazards and health hazards. Physical hazards can result in injuries while health hazards cause illness.
After the hazards have been separated into their categories, the safety team breaks down the hazards into even more categories set forth by OSHA. Then the team looks for the cause of these issues and notes the layout of the shop and any injuries or illnesses that have occurred.
