Some of the effects of MWFs happen farther in the future. They may occur weeks, months, even years since they were exposed to MWFs. A respiratory disease can be the consequence of a chemical reaction occurring between the chemicals and biological contaminants in the MWF and human respiratory systems. Irritation can happen in many parts of the respiratory system creating cold or flu-like feelings. It can aggravate asthma, other diseases like chronic bronchitis and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Smoking can add to the detriment of these risks.

Research has exposed employees who have cancer years later after the first contact. This research indicates how long and how much you are exposed to these MWFs will increase the bad health effects. A variety of these cancer cases are before chemicals and processes were improved. Today, cancer risk is far lower due to many harmful chemicals being removed and better industrial cleanliness being practiced.
