3050 – 01 – How Important is Hearing Conservation?
One of the biggest occupational health hazards in the United States is hearing loss. Around thirty million workers are in a hazardous noise environment — and ten million of them live with permanent hearing loss.
Typically, occupational hearing loss can be prevented when employers implement hearing conservation techniques. Lowering exposure to noise hazards and wearing hearing protection in noisy places that cannot be avoided, means workers can keep themselves from sustaining serious damage to their hearing. If noise in the workplace gets above a certain point, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) demands employers take action to lower noise levels and keep workers safe.
